KARACHI: Seems like the West just can’t stop drawing inspiration from us. Italian designer Donatella Versace is no different. The designer recently unveiled her menswear collection for Spring/Summer 2016 in Milan, surprisingly, much of which was inspired from shalwar kameez.
Versace’s attempts to play with lengths, layers and proportions made a seemingly interesting collection but one that had a strong resemblance to the Pakistani national dress.

Although many took a liking to the ‘new trend’, this is not the first time a designer from the west has drawn inspiration from our traditional dress.

Just last month, fashion bloggers, stylists, and prominent members of the fashion industry were talking about the ‘dress over pants’ trend, which Pakistanis have been sporting for as long as we can remember.

Kendall Jenner — known for wearing outfits revealing her toned body and legs — in a recent public appearance wore the ‘dress over pants’, revealing just her arms and managing to look effortlessly chic.

Similarly, Emma Watson too opted for the trend for the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year as she donned a floor length Christian Dior dress paired with a pair of black pants.

Many western designers have drawn inspiration from Pakistani outfits and used it in their designs, which have graced runways in recent times.
